WMA Dove Fields

1. Buffalo Springs 

Crops planted: 20 acres total of wheat. 

Hunt Dates: September 1, 6, and noon until sunset only. Open every day thereafter during statewide dove season. Hunter quota 55. Staked positions only. A random drawing will be held at 11 a.m. Sep. 1 and 6.  Otherwise, first-come, first served. 

A WMA Small Game Permit is required.

Directions: (Grainger County) From Knoxville take Rutledge Pike Exit (Hwy 11W) off interstate 40 north through Blaine to Joppa. Just past Joppa School, take the first road to the right (Owl Hole Gap Road), go 3.7 miles and turn right on Indian Ridge Road. Then go 0.6 miles and turn left on gravel road at the Buffalo Springs WMA sign. 

From Jefferson City , TN take Hwy 92 toward Rutledge. Go 1.4 miles north past Cherokee Dam and turn left on Owl Hole Gap Road . Then go 4.9 miles and turn left on Indian Ridge Road . Then go 0.6 miles and turn left on gravel road at the Buffalo Springs WMA sign.

2. Chuck Swan 

Crops planted : 98 acres of sunflowers, wheat, and millet at the Chuck Swan Forks of the River Area.

Hunt Dates: Same as statewide season. Season opens noon on September 1.

A WMA Small Game Permit is required.

Directions: Take Hwy. 33N out of Knoxville, cross Norris Lake; go approximately 1 mile and turn left on Sharps Chapel Road; this dead ends into Chuck Swan. Field is approximately 12 miles within the area near Forks of the River on Main Forest Road .

3. Forks of the River 

Crops planted: 18 acres of sunflowers, 18 acres of wheat, and 9 acres of millet. 

Note: Forks of the River WMA is temporarily closed to dove and waterfowl hunting due to vandalism on the area. Forks of the River WMA is scheduled to reopen September 7 at 30 minutes before sun rise for dove and canada Geese.

Hunt Dates: September 7 and every day thereafter during the statewide seasons.

A WMA Small Game Permit is required.

Directions: In Knoxville, cross the South Knoxville Bridge and exit right at the first exit. Turn left and continue to the end of road. Turn right on Island Home Ave and continue past Ijams Nature Center. Cross railroad track, and turn at next left on McClure Road . Go to end of road.

6. Lick Creek Bottoms 

Crops planted :

Foxgate Trail (Wilkerson Field): 20 acres of proso millet and wheat.

South Mohawk Field : 30 acres of proso millet and wheat.

Joachim Bible Refuge: 15 acres of wheat.

Hunt Dates: Foxgate Trail: September 1, 6, and the remainder of the statewide dove season. Hunting from from noon to sunset only on September 1 and 6.

Hunt Dates: South Mohawk Field (lead shot acceptable): September 1, 6, and the remainder of the statewide dove season. Hunting from noon to sunset only on Sep. 1 and 6.

Hunt Dates: Joachim Bible Refuge Field (non-toxic shot only): September 6 and the remainder of the statewide dove season. Hunting from noon to sunset only on September 6.

Hunt Dates: Joachim Bible Refuge (Youth Hunt) (non-toxic shot only): September 1. Hunting from noon to sunset. All dove hunting is Young Sportsman (ages 6-16) only. Each Youth must be accompanied by a licensed adult, 21 years of age or older, who may also hunt.

A WMA Small Game Permit is required.

Directions: Foxgate Trail (Wilkerson Field). Get off Exit 15 on I-81; take Highway 340 South (i.e., Fish Hatchery Road ) and go 4 miles and turn left on Highway 348. Then go 0.8 miles and turn right on McDonald Circle . Then go 0.2 miles and turn right on Glades Road . Then go 0.3 miles and turn right on Toby Road . Then go 0.5 miles and turn right onto Foxgate Trail. Then go 0.2 miles and turn right through gate. Field is at end of road.

Directions: South Mohawk Field . Take McDonald Road and turn south on to South Mohawk Road and go approximately 1.5 miles and field is on left.

8. Kyker Bottoms 

Crops planted: 15 acres total including 4 acres of sunflowers, 6 acres of mixed millet, and 5 acres of top sewn wheat.  

All dove hunting is Young Sportsman (ages 6-16) only. Each Youth must be accompanied by a licensed adult, 21 years of age or older, who may also hunt. Non-toxic shot required.

Hunt Dates: September 1-6, 7, and October 11-26.  Shooting from staked positions on first come, first serve basis. Opens at noon each day. 

A WMA Small Game Permit is required for 16 year old youths and adults.

Directions: (Blount County) From Highway 411, take Highway 129 and go 8 miles and turn right on Garland Road and go approximately one mile to barn on right with chain link fence and parking area.

9. Tellico Lake 

McGhee - Carson Unit

Crops planted: 10 acres of wheat.

Hunt Dates McGhee - Carson Unit: September 1. Shooting from staked positions on first come, first serve basis. Opens at noon .

All dove hunting is Young Sportsman (ages 6-16) / Adult only. Each youth must be accompanied by a licensed adult, 21 years of age or older, who may also hunt.

A WMA Small Game Permit is required for all 16 year old youths and adults.

Directions to McGhee - Carson Unit: (Blount County) From Maryville take highway 411 south to Vonore. Then turn left onto highway 360. Go past Ft. Loudon State Park and turn left at Tellico Lake McGhee- Carson Unit WMA sign and then go to first building on right.

Leased Dove Fields

A. Greene County Larry Lammon Dove Field

Crops planted: 40 acres of corn silage.

Hunt Dates: September 1, 5, and 6. Opens noon to sunset.

Directions to Larry Laymon Farm: From Greenville travel State Hwy 93 North, turn right on Rheatown Rd. (St. Rt. 351), go past Snapps Ferry Rd. and Sinking Creek Rd., follow signs.

B. Greene County Lynn Morgan Dove Field

Crops planted: 30 acres of corn silage.

Hunt Dates: September 1, 5, and 6. Opens noon to sunset.

Directions to Morgan Farm: Take Hwy. 321 from Greeneville to Newport. Cross Nolichucky River and turn left on West Allens Bridge Road (approximately 1 mile from Cocke County Line). Continue straight through first stop sign. Travel less than 0.25 mile, turn right on Shady Lane and follow signs.

D. Greene County Jimmy Starnes Dove Field

Crops planted: 30 acres of corn silage.

Hunt Dates: September 1, 5, and 6. Opens noon to sunset.

Directions to Jimmy Starnes Farm: From Greenville travel 4.4 miles on State Hwy 70 South, turn left on East Allens Bridge Road and go 1 mile and turn right on Links Mill Road. Go .3 miles and turn left on Birds Bridge Road and go 200 yards and gate to dove field is on left.

E. Jefferson County Warren Baker's Dove Field

Crops planted: 40 acres total of wheat.

Hunt Dates: (Juvenile Hunt Only Septmber 6 and 13). Youths must be accompanied by a non-hunting adult. Opens noon to sunset.

Directions to Warren Baker's Farm: From New Market go west on State Hwy 11 E and turn right on Lowery Loop Road across from Wootens Chapel Church. Go 0.1 miles to stop sign and continue ahead on Lowery Loop Road for 0.1 miles and turn left on Baker Road. Then go 1.3 miles to two metal gates on each side of road.

F. Jefferson County Charles and Dwight Ballinger Dove Fields

Crops planted: 140 acres of corn silage top sown with wheat.

Hunt Dates: September 1, 6, and 13. Opens noon till sunset.

Direction to Charles and Dwight Ballinger Farm: From Jefferson City travel Hwy. 92 North, turn left on Renfro Rd. before crossing Holston River and follow signs.

K. Monroe County Robert Watson Dove Field

Directions to Robert Watson Farm: I-75 south to Exit 68, turn right (west) on Pond Creek Road and go 2.5 miles. Turn left on Harris Road and the Watson Farm is at the end of road.

Crops planted: 67 acres of improved corn silage.

Hunt Dates: Septmber 1, 6, and 7. Opens noon to sunset.

Directions to Harrison Dairy Farm: I-75 south to Exit 72, turn left on Hwy. 72 and go to Steekee Rd. and turn right. Steekee Rd. becomes Corinth Rd.; proceed to New Macedonia Rd. and turn right; proceed into Monroe County and turn left on County Rd. 273; field is about ¼ mile on right.

Direction to Hartman Field: From Greenville travel 11E North and turn right on Big Limestone Rd and go towards Limestone, TN. Turn left on Old St. Rt. 34, turn right on H&H Rd. and follow signs.
