Invasive Plant Control and Removal

Purple Loosestrife

Invasive (exotic) plants can rapidly and seriously degrade the quality of native ecosystems by altering natural processes and reducing biodiversity. Control methods used to combat these plants may also adversely affect the habitat and environment.

Wildlife managers should use control methods that are the most effective against invasive species and the least damaging to the ecosystem. Harsh tactics are justified when working with habitat that is dominated by exotic weeds, but other procedures should be used when only a few plants are involved.
